I’m the founder of The Rich Guy Math, an independent financial education website focused on helping people understand the numbers behind personal finance.
I created TRGM because financial information can be unnecessarily complicated.
A financial term can be explained in one sentence but still leave a reader wondering:
“Okay—but what does that actually mean for my money?”
That’s where I believe good financial education should go further.
What I Do at TRGM
I oversee the site’s:
- financial education content
- editorial direction
- calculators and financial tools
- publishing standards
- research process
- content updates
- reader-focused improvements
I also work to make complicated financial concepts easier to understand through examples, calculations, comparisons, and plain-English explanations.
My Approach to Financial Education
I don’t believe financial education should be about making readers feel like they need an expert to understand their own money.
It should make readers more capable of asking better questions.
That’s why TRGM focuses heavily on the numbers.
For example, instead of simply saying that compound interest is powerful, we can show how:
- the starting balance matters
- the rate matters
- contributions matter
- time matters
- compounding frequency can matter
The same philosophy applies to debt, savings, investing, and net worth.
What I Don’t Claim
I do not present myself as a licensed financial adviser, investment adviser, tax professional, attorney, or other regulated professional unless specifically identified with a verifiable credential.
TRGM provides general financial education.
When a reader’s circumstances require personalized professional advice, consulting an appropriately qualified professional may be appropriate.
How I Work With Sources
For subjects where authoritative information is available, I seek primary or authoritative sources and use them to verify important claims.
That can include government agencies, regulators, official data sources, and established research institutions.
